Recently, everything in Budweis revolved around the fine art of beer pouring: the national competition by Budějovický Budvar, “Mistr výčepní” – which roughly translates as “Master of the Art of Tapping” – reached its final round. The final brought the best Budweiser beer pourers in the country to the South Bohemian beer capital. To succeed here, participants must not only have a steady hand and a feel for the perfect head – they must also master the craft behind the bar to perfection.

16 finalists from across the Czech Republic had prevailed in three regional qualifying rounds in Prague, Olomouc and Budweis against more than 70 competitors. Because what may seem like pure routine at first glance is actually a combination of precision, hygiene, hospitality and expertise. The competition also included proper glass rinsing and confident handling of the tap system. These are exactly the details that make the difference in quality for Budvar – and are a central concern of the national brewer.

“We have now held this competition for the third year running and have since been able to expand it across the entire country. With growing awareness of good beer tapping, the standard of participants is also increasing significantly,” explains Jiří Douda, HoReCa quality specialist at Budějovický Budvar. “It’s great to see how the repeat participants improve year by year – and how strong the competition has become.”

The title of “Mistr výčepní 2025” was secured this year by Jakub Kořínek from the Prague Open-air theater Azyl 78. Second place went to Martin Studený from the Olomouc summer cinema. Third place was shared by Richard Andrýsek from Panský pivovar in Holešov and Daniel Obložinský from the Budweiser pub U Čertíka.

Alongside fame and honour, the winners took home valuable prizes and experiences – and an event that’s truly special among colleagues. “The decision was incredibly close – the standard was exceptionally high this year,” summarises Jiří Douda. “We thank all participants and are already looking forward to the next edition.”
