Prague to build two new Park & Ride car parks with over 1,200 spaces

The City Council approved the tendering of two public contracts earlier this week for the construction of Park & Ride (P+R) car parks in Zličín and Hostivař

Prague is planning two new P+R car parks in Hostivař and Zličín, providing a total of more than 1,200 parking spaces. The facilities are intended to make parking easier for commuters, encourage the use of public transport, and are scheduled to open in 2028.

The City of Prague is continuing to expand its Park & Ride infrastructure. Earlier this week, the City Council approved the tendering of two public contracts for the construction of P+R car parks in Zličín and Hostivař. Together, the two car parks will offer 1,243 spaces and are expected to open in 2028. The estimated cost is around 1.25 billion CZK. The project aims primarily to make parking easier for commuters from outside the city and to make public transport more attractive. Final approval still needs to be granted by the Prague City Assembly.

In Hostivař, the first of the two new car parks will be located directly at the terminus of Metro Line A, Depo Hostivař, near Černokostelecká and Sazečská streets. The car park will have space for 647 vehicles, including 20 spaces for people with severe mobility impairments and four electric vehicle charging points. There will also be parking for 38 bicycles.

The second car park will be built on Na Radosti Street, near the Zličín Metro station. It will offer 462 spaces, supplemented by a nearby auxiliary area with 134 additional spaces, giving a total of 596. Of these, 10 spaces are for people with mobility impairments, eight for families with children, and 11 charging points for electric cars. Completion is planned by the end of 2027, with the official opening for the public scheduled for 2028. The project also includes the construction of new bus stops on Na Radosti Street, which will benefit local residents.

With the construction of these two car parks, the city expects a noticeable reduction in traffic on surrounding streets, an improvement in environmental conditions, and better connections for commuters to public transport, without unnecessary vehicle traffic entering different parts of the city. The final decision on the projects now rests with the City Assembly.
