The 15th edition of the Czech collection campaign “Shoe Box” for children in need is in full swing. Over 44,000 boxes filled with gifts have already been donated, yet more than 20,000 children are still waiting for a Christmas present.
The largest Czech collection campaign for Christmas gifts for children in need, the “Shoe Box” (Krabice od bot) organised by the Diakonie of the Evangelical Church of the Bohemian Brethren (Diakonie ČCE), has been running at full pace since 24 November. People across the country have so far donated 44,409 boxes filled with gifts, bringing smiles to thousands of children in difficult life situations. In addition, 1,700,000 crowns have been transferred to the campaign’s donation account.
Despite already having donated well over half of the target of 65,000 boxes, more than 20,000 children are still waiting for a gift. The collection continues until 8 December.
Until then, donors can hand in their filled shoe boxes at 286 collection points across the Czech Republic. An overview of the locations can be found on the website www.krabiceodbot.cz.
From 9 December, over 1,000 volunteers and hundreds of supporting organisations will distribute the gifts directly to children and families living in difficult social circumstances. The credibility of the campaign is underlined not only by the growing number of donors but also by the support of numerous companies and the patronage of Eva Pavlová, the wife of the President.
“At the halfway point of the campaign, generous donors have already given over 44,000 boxes for children in need. Our target is 65,000 boxes, so just over 20,000 are still missing. Every child deserves to receive a gift at Christmas. For many children in need, the shoe box may be the only present they receive this year. We are grateful to everyone who takes part in the campaign,” emphasises Dalibor Hála, spokesperson for Diakonie ČCE.
The campaign’s website provides comprehensive information, including tips for age-appropriate gifts, the “Ten Commandments” for a good present, stories from children in previous years, and ethical guidelines. Donors can also view collection points, reserve boxes online for a specific age and gender, and plan the delivery date for their boxes. Financial donations to support children in need throughout the year are also possible.
