In Prague, a Řízek – the famous Schnitzel – is a must on any menu. We went in search of the best, and here are our five favourite spots for a truly good schnitzel in the city. New to the list: our HOT tip, a must for all Schnitzel lovers.
UPDATED 16.02.2026: The Czech Republic is famous for hearty dishes like Svíčková and goulash. But the Řízek – or schnitzel, as it’s known in Austria and Germany – also holds a firm place in Czech cuisine. Almost every pub and restaurant in Prague serves it. That’s why we set out to discover our five favourite venues for a delicious schnitzel in the city.
It should be said upfront: there are plenty of other excellent restaurants that could have made this list, but these five impressed us the most on our visit – and we keep coming back. Newly included is our HOT tip, an absolute must for schnitzel fans in Prague.
Café Platýz Prague
Café Platýz is located in the historic atrium of the Platýz Palace in the center of Prague on Národní třída and opened in 2002. The charm of this café, styled like a classic Viennese coffee house, is instantly recognizable. The veal Wiener schnitzel leaves nothing to be desired, and the potato salad served with it makes this dish a real highlight. One small downside: the schnitzel is only available from 3 pm, after the daily lunch service ends. In addition to schnitzel, there are other Austrian specialties, such as beef soup and Viennese sausages. For dessert, we recommend a delicious coffee with cake or a foam roll.

Café Savoy
Café Savoy is a perfect example of how a simple dish can be transformed into a gourmet experience. In addition to serving one of the best breakfasts in Prague, this café is known for one of the finest schnitzels in town. You can choose between the classic Viennese veal schnitzel or a chicken schnitzel, both served with cranberry jam, of course. Try it once, and you’ll want to come back!

Pork’s
Pork’s is best known for its pork knuckles, but the schnitzel will also leave you speechless. When served, you’ll be amazed at the gigantic schnitzel that nearly covers the plate. The schnitzel is fried in lard to a wonderfully golden brown, juicy perfection. Few schnitzels in Prague can compete with this.

Oktoberfest Pub Prague
The name says it all: German beer, German food—in the center of Prague. On weekends, Oktoberfest Pub Prague offers a lively atmosphere with an authentic Oktoberfest vibe, Bundesliga football, and more. The pork schnitzel here is one of the largest we discovered on our tour. It’s served with fries, and, as a special highlight, in addition to freshly tapped Paulaner Helles, they also offer a real Spezi (a mixed drink made from cola and orange lemonade)!

Domažlická jizba
Domažlická jizba is a traditional pub in Holešovice that offers a perfect combination of delicious dishes and good Pilsner beer. Located directly at the Strossmayerovo náměstí stop, you can often find the ‘Řízkobraní’ schnitzel special alongside the traditional menu. From the classic Viennese veal schnitzel to other variations, there’s plenty to choose from here. And although this list is about schnitzel, it should be noted that the beer here—as regulars claim—is one of the best Pilsners in the city. Domažlická jizba is always worth a visit, even if it’s just for a well-pulled beer.

NEW: Restaurant Šnycl – Our HOT Pick
Newly opened in Prague, Restaurant Šnycl is a must-visit for schnitzel enthusiasts. Here, the classic schnitzel isn’t merely served - it’s celebrated. The restaurant prides itself on traditional preparation: breaded meat, fried to a golden perfection in clarified butter, crafted with precision and firmly rooted in Viennese standards.
At the heart of the menu is Jan Punčochář’s signature schnitzel, bringing a personal touch to the dish. The menu also features other Austrian classics, complemented by freshly poured Pilsner Urquell and a carefully curated wine selection.

If you miss the ‘Kočár z Vídně’ - a Restauant that was once popular in Prague for original Schnitzel Vienna style - it has, unfortunately, been closed for some time. Nevertheless, we’re convinced our TOP 5 has something for every schnitzel fan. Do you have any other tips?
