Orlen Prague Marathon 2025: Closures and Traffic Information

Most of the route runs along the Vltava River

On Sunday, 4 May 2025, the Prague International Marathon will take place for the thirtieth time. As part of the event, there will be temporary traffic disruptions in the city centre, affecting both car traffic and the operation of public transport services, including tram and bus lines.

The Orlen Prague Marathon 2025 starts on Sunday at 9.00 a.m. in the Old Town Square and takes runners on a 42.195 km route through the streets of the capital. Most of the course will follow the Vltava River in Prague districts 1, 2, 4, 5, 7 and 8, with the race expected to finish at 4.00 p.m. The technical facilities will be located in the lower half of Wenceslas Square. There will also be 34 first aid points along the route.

The Police of the Czech Republic, in cooperation with the Prague City Police, will manage traffic during the race, gradually closing and reopening roads and intersections along the route between 8.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. Outside these hours, the normal traffic regime will apply, except on Pařížská, Celetná, Staroměstské náměstí and Václavské náměstí, where restrictions will remain in force for longer due to construction works. A complete list of traffic measures can be found here.

Due to the race, the following streets in Prague 1 will be temporarily closed to vehicle traffic: Októbrská, Edvard Beneš Embankment, U plovárny, Kosárkovo Embankment, Jan Palach Square, Malostranské náměstí, Tomášská and Valdštejnská.

There will also be road closures in parts of Prague 2, namely Rašínovo nábřeží, Jiráskův most, Palackého most, Na Slupi, as well as Svobodova, Sekaninova and Jaromírova streets. In Prague 4, restrictions will apply in the Podolské nábřeží area, and in Prague 5 they will affect Diezenhoferovy sady, Zborovská, Lidická, Nábřežní, Strakonická, Svornosti, and the riverside streets Hořejší and Janáčkovo nábřeží. In Prague 7, closures will affect Bubenské nábřeží, Jankovcova, Jateční and Komunardů streets, as well as the Edvard Beneš and Kapitán Jaroše embankments. Finally, in Prague 8, restrictions will affect Libeňský most, Štorchova, Voctářova and Rohanské nábřeží.

In addition, parking will be prohibited in these areas on Saturday and Sunday, 3 and 4 May 2025. Vehicles parked in contravention of this ban will be towed away.

Due to the race, some tram and bus services will also be restricted. Given the changes to surface transport in the city centre, it is recommended to use the metro, which will be reinforced if necessary. All information about this year’s Prague Marathon can be found on the RunCzech.com website.
