Special tram and exhibitions mark the 80th anniversary of the Prague Uprising

The tram not only provides information about the Prague Uprising, but also about other events in the Czech Republic at the end of the Second World War

On the 80th anniversary of the Prague Uprising, a specially designed tram in Prague commemorates the heroism of the population in May 1945. It is accompanied by several exhibitions recalling the liberation of the capital and the end of the Second World War.

To mark both the anniversary of the Prague Uprising and the end of the Second World War, a newly decorated tram named Prague, the City of Heroes began operating in the capital on Tuesday. The Škoda 15T tram will run in the city for around six months, and its distinctive appearance serves as a reminder of the courage of Prague’s citizens during the events of May 1945. Its design, featuring the Czech national colours and significant historical dates, is a tribute to the inhabitants of the capital and the heroes of the uprising.

Last week, the exhibition V for Victory opened in the capital to mark the 80th anniversary of both the end of the Second World War and the Prague Uprising. It will be on display at Mariánské náměstí in Prague 1 until 30 May 2025. The free exhibition introduces visitors to key historical events related to the liberation of Prague and the end of the conflict.

The uprising itself is also the focus of an exhibition at the Museum of 20th Century Memory entitled The Old Town Square in Flames. More information can be found at: www.muzeum20stoleti.cz.
