Prague City Council yesterday authorised the live broadcast of the semi-finals, the third-place match, and the final of the 2025 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship on Old Town Square if the Czech team qualifies.
Prague City Council yesterday authorised the broadcast of the semi-finals, the third-place match and the final – provided the Czech team makes it that far. The games of the 2025 Ice Hockey World Championship on the Old Town Square would take place on Saturday and Sunday, 24 and 25 May 2025. The cost of the event is around CZK 2 million. As this is an extraordinary expenditure, the Prague City Council also authorised an adjustment to the Prague City Hall budget.
The funds will cover the costs of providing the stage, large screen, sound system, security equipment, nets, moderation, catering, cleaning, accompanying programme and all staff.
Throughout the weekend, the Altstädter Ring will be under increased surveillance by the emergency services, fire brigade and police; police officers will also be on standby to ensure security.
Given the success of the national team last year, the broadcast of the Ice Hockey World Championship matches is a special event – not only for the people of Prague, but also for tourists.
If the Czech national team wins the gold medal, the Old Town Square will be on Monday 26 May once again the venue for the reception for the ice hockey players, as it was last year.
The Czech Republic won its penultimate group game yesterday with a 5:0 victory over Germany. Today, coach Radim Rulík’s team will face co-favourites USA in their final group game at 16:20
