Czech Republic Once Again Among the World’s Leading Congress Destinations

In addition to the capital, other Czech cities are increasingly coming into focus for congress and incentive event organisers

The Czech Republic continues to assert its position in the international competition for conferences and events. Alongside the capital city, Prague, cities such as Brno are also attracting growing interest from event organisers. Current figures and rankings reveal that congress and incentive tourism in the Czech Republic is booming—and becoming increasingly decentralised.

The Czech Republic has once again confirmed its place among the world’s leading congress destinations. According to the latest ranking by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), the country ranks 21st among the most popular conference destinations. Prague improved on its previous year’s performance and now holds a prestigious 5th place globally. Within Europe, the city has even climbed to 4th place.

Beyond the capital, other Czech cities are also becoming increasingly important for congress and incentive organisers. The ICCA statistics clearly demonstrate the growing interest in destinations outside Prague and underline the trend towards decentralisation in the congress industry. This development opens up new opportunities to expand infrastructure and services across the country.

Prague Among the Top Destinations for Technology Conferences

The annual ICCA ranking takes into account regularly organised, associated conferences and meetings with at least 50 participants, held in rotation across at least three countries or regions. In 2024, 175 such events took place in the Czech Republic—18 more than the previous year. This increase highlights the importance of the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) segment—not only economically, but also as a driver of innovation, international cooperation, and local community development.

“As the ICCA analysis shows, the future development of convention and incentive tourism will depend on keeping pace with current trends. Destinations no longer position themselves solely through infrastructure—they are increasingly focusing on expertise, innovation, and academic environments. As a result, partnerships are gaining depth and are based on shared values. Prague ranks third globally for technology-related events and remains in the top five for medical conferences,” says Tereza Hofmanová, Head of Product Management, Research and B2B Cooperation, and Manager of the Czech Convention Bureau.

    Sustainability as a Success Factor

In addition to decentralisation, sustainability is becoming increasingly important—not only in the MICE sector. New, previously lesser-known locations are gaining attention and creating opportunities for regions that can respond flexibly to changing customer demands and values. A focus on responsible behaviour is gradually becoming the norm. Destinations that systematically integrate sustainability principles into their strategy, planning, and infrastructure significantly enhance their competitiveness. Successful venues are also increasingly pursuing partnerships in a broader sense—beyond simply providing event space.

Data Shows Growing Interest in MICE Events

According to data from the Czech Statistical Office, approximately 12,000 conferences were held in the Czech Republic in 2024, attended by nearly 1.2 million guests. Around a third (35.4%) of these events took place in Prague. The South Moravian Region also made a notable contribution, hosting 2,213 events. The Vysočina, Olomouc, and Central Bohemian regions each hosted around 900 events. Most of these were one-day events, which accounted for 70% of the total volume.

The latest ICCA results underscore the Czech Republic’s strengths in this field—from first-class technical infrastructure and professional expertise to the growing engagement of its regions in the continued development of MICE tourism.
