The Czech automotive industry is experiencing a decline in overall car production, while electric mobility continues to break records. Bus manufacturing is also on the rise – in contrast to the motorcycle sector.
Between January and April, a total of 490,868 passenger cars were produced in Czech factories – a decrease of 7.6 per cent compared to the same period last year. The picture is different for bus production, where output rose by 13.7 per cent to 1,714 units.
The electric vehicle segment once again demonstrated particularly strong growth. During the same period, 92,050 electric cars rolled off the production lines – an increase of 133 per cent compared to the previous year. Of these, 71,318 were battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and 20,732 were plug-in hybrids (PHEVs). Electrified vehicles thus accounted for 18.8 per cent of total production.
‘The decline in passenger car production reflects the cooling demand in the most important European markets,’ explains Zdeněk Petzl, Managing Director of the Association of the Automotive Industry. ‘At the same time, the domestic industry is setting new records in the field of electromobility. In April alone, 27,094 electric cars were manufactured – more than ever before.’
At Škoda Auto in Mladá Boleslav, vehicles with electric or plug-in hybrid drives accounted for a quarter of total production, with the Škoda Elroq proving particularly successful, becoming the best-selling electric car in Europe in April.
Car Production in Detail
Škoda Auto produced 316,145 vehicles at its domestic plants between January and April – a decline of 4.2 per cent compared to the same period last year. Of these, 68,089 were electric cars, representing a share of over 21 per cent (57,971 BEVs and 10,118 PHEVs).
The Hyundai plant in Nošovice produced 97,340 vehicles – a decline of 17 per cent. With 13,347 battery electric cars and 10,614 plug-in hybrids, the electric share here was an impressive 24.6 per cent.
Toyota in Kolín also recorded a decline: with 77,383 cars produced, output fell by 7.7 per cent compared to the previous year. Almost 60 per cent of production was accounted for by the Yaris HEV hybrid.
Buses and Motorcycles
In the first four months of 2025, domestic manufacturers produced 207 more buses than in the same period last year. Total production amounted to 1,714 buses – an increase of 13.7 per cent year on year.
Motorcycle production also fell short of last year’s figures: Jawa produced only 238 machines – 70 fewer than in the same period in 2024.
