1000 mil československých: Legendary Rally Starts on 12 June in Prague

This year’s edition is dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the Škoda brand

From a historic race once held under the patronage of President Masaryk to the most important classic car rally in the country, the 1000 mil československých continues to captivate fans of vintage vehicles to this day.

On the morning of 12 June, the starting signal will once again be given on Opletalova Street in the heart of Prague. More than 100 historic cars will set off for Bratislava – and back. The finish line will be crossed in the early evening of 14 June, traditionally in front of the National Technical Museum in Prague.

The first races were held between 1933 and 1935 under the patronage of President Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk. After a decades-long hiatus, the Veteran Car Club Prague revived the event in 1970 – initially with everyday vehicles and a non-stop journey shortened by half. But by 1972, it was cancelled again for the time being: the race was banned for safety reasons. It is only since 2015 that the 1000 Miles has been held regularly again as a historic commemorative rally.

    130 Years of Škoda Auto

This year’s edition is dedicated to the 130th anniversary of Škoda Auto – a milestone in Czech automotive history. The Voiturette A made its debut on 29 October 1905 and was the first car produced by Laurin & Klement (founded on 18 December 1895), the company that later became Škoda Auto.

    A Unique Spectacle

The 1000 mil československých is now the most important event for historic cars in the Czech Republic – and unique in its kind. In terms of atmosphere and ambition, it rivals the major European classic car rallies. Anyone with petrol in their veins and a heart for history should not miss this rolling museum.
