100 Years of Bus Transport in Prague: A Rolling Anniversary Through the Streets of the Capital

Historical Parade and Modern Technology Bring Prague's Bus History to Life

A century on wheels: Prague is celebrating 100 years of continuous bus transport with a unique parade through the city. On 22 June 2025, historical and modern vehicles will roll through the streets – an event for technology enthusiasts, nostalgics, and city lovers alike.

On Sunday, 22 June 2025, the streets of Prague will be transformed into a living history book of public transport: a festive bus parade will commemorate 100 years of uninterrupted bus service in the Czech capital.

The day will begin symbolically at 9 a.m. on Old Town Square (Staroměstské náměstí) – exactly where the first regular bus service was ceremoniously launched a century ago. Between 9 and 10 a.m., visitors will be able to admire an exhibition of historic and modern vehicles.

At around 10 a.m., the colourful parade will set off. Led by true classics such as the Škoda 706 RO from 1951 and the Jelcz 272 from 1973, legendary models from the Ikarus and Karosa brands will also be featured. Technical progress will be represented by current vehicles from the SOR, Solaris and Iveco brands, along with the modern Škoda E’City 36BB electric bus.

The parade will pass through several particularly photogenic locations, including the Čech, Mánes and Jiráskův bridges, and the area around the Strahov Stadium. A special moment awaits visitors at Hradčanské náměstí, where the vehicles will pause for around 30 minutes before continuing to Vítězné náměstí – the grand finale and highlight of the anniversary journey.

There, in the car park of the University of Chemistry and Technology (VŠCHT) on Šolínova Street, the exhibition will continue. Buses from the collection of the Prague Public Transport Museum will be on display until around 3:30 p.m. The programme will be complemented by numerous accompanying events and a souvenir sales stand.

Please note: For operational and technical reasons, there may be last-minute changes to the route or the vehicles used.

In addition to marking 100 years of continuous bus service in Prague, Prague Public Transport is also celebrating its 150th anniversary this year. You can find more information here: Prague’s Public Transport Double Celebrations: 150 Years & 100 Years of Bus Operation
