The eighth matchday in the European League of Football ended bitterly for the Prague Lions: with their convincing victory, the Vienna Vikings underlined why they sit atop the East Division.
The Prague Lions’ winning streak in the European League of Football (ELF) has come to an end – and in spectacular fashion. They suffered a painful 0–34 defeat against the superior Vienna Vikings. But perhaps this setback has come at just the right time.
The Vienna Vikings dominated the Prague Lions on Saturday in Vienna, ending the visitors’ winning streak with a commanding 34–0 shutout. The home side set the tone early, scoring a touchdown in each of the first two quarters and extending their lead to 20–0 at half-time with two field goals. Another touchdown in the third quarter sealed the emphatic win in the clash of the capitals in Vienna’s favour.
Vikings quarterback Ben Holmes impressed with over 300 passing yards and four touchdown passes – without a single turnover. The American was once again the decisive figure in his team’s offence, which now tops the table with a 6–1 record.
On the other side, Prague’s playmaker Javarian Smith had a tough day: just nine completions from 19 attempts, under 100 yards gained and two interceptions – the Lions’ offence never really got going. The much-anticipated showdown failed to materialise, as the Vikings’ superiority across all areas of the game was simply too great.
In the end, however, the clear defeat could be seen as a setback at the right time – after an almost uncanny winning streak. In Vienna, only the most die-hard fans had truly expected a victory against the top favourites. Now it’s time to refocus fully on the upcoming fixtures in a bid to reach the European League of Football (ELF) playoffs for the first time.

After five away games, fans can finally look forward to a home fixture once again: on 13 July, the Prague Lions will host the Panthers Wrocław at the stadium in Žižkov.
