A touch of Brazil in the heart of Prague: Zoo Praha invites you to a vibrant weekend of samba, rare animals, and a new exhibition of poison dart frogs. Visitors can look forward to an exciting mix of nature, culture, and encounters with extraordinary animal species.
This weekend, Prague Zoo is hosting a special programme highlighting Brazil’s remarkable wildlife and rich cultural heritage. The main attraction is the opening of the exhibition Šípové žáby – showcasing forty species of poison dart frogs from South America, on display at the Gočárovy domy gallery from Saturday.
Poison dart frogs, known for their striking warning colours, are not only small but also extremely poisonous. Their name comes from the toxins traditionally used by Amazonian indigenous peoples on their hunting arrows. The exhibition also features rarely kept species such as the batik poison dart frog Capurgana and the ‘Red Frog Beach Bastimentos’, named after a famous Panamanian island.
The exhibition opens on Saturday at 12:50 p.m. with a performance by a Brazilian dancer and an introduction by the exhibition organisers. Afterwards, an experienced keeper will guide visitors through the exhibition. Those keen to explore further can also take part in a quiz trail that leads through the zoo.

In addition to the exhibition, the weekend offers numerous guided feedings and close encounters with other Brazilian species. For example, visitors will be able to see the Paraná guinea pigs, which Prague Zoo has successfully bred for the first time in Europe. Another highlight is the feeding of some of the world’s rarest birds, taking place at 2:15 p.m. in the Ptačí mokřady (Bird Marshes).
