The popular night train service with couchette cars from Prague to the Polish Baltic Sea coast will run longer than planned: due to high demand, the couchette cars on the Baltic Express will remain in service until the end of September. Travellers can continue to look forward to comfortable night journeys with a Baltic Sea ambience.
The summer season is not over yet – the connection to the Polish Baltic Sea coast remains attractive in September. Due to high demand, České dráhy (ČD) and PKP Intercity are extending the use of couchette cars on the EC 460 and EC 461 ‘Baltic Express’ night trains by another month, until 29 September.
The service, which runs daily with four train pairs between Prague and Gdynia, is already proving very popular in its first summer season. According to Michal Krapinec, Director General of Czech Railways, the couchette car introduced on the night train in April quickly gained a loyal clientele. “The trial operation was a complete success – that’s why we are extending it. Tickets are now on sale. Anyone who wishes to travel should not wait too long – seats are quickly booked up,” said Krapinec.

The WLAB9bmnouz couchette cars used by PKP Intercity offer eight compartments with three beds each – a total of 24 sleeping places. The compartments can be booked as single, double or triple and are equipped with a shower and air conditioning. The EC 460 train departs daily at 18:51 from Prague, and the return train, EC 461, leaves Gdynia every evening shortly after 23:00.
On Czech territory, the trains consist of four or five carriages, including a first-class carriage and a minibar service from JLV. In Wrocław, additional carriages, including a dining car, are attached by PKP Intercity. From the timetable change in December, a new bistro car is also planned, which will increase capacity and offer hot meals and popular specialities from JLV.
It pays to book early
As with other long-distance connections operated by Czech Railways (ČD), it pays to book early. If you plan ahead, you can travel to the Baltic Sea for less than CZK 750, and prices to Wrocław start at less than CZK 400. The surcharge for a couchette in a three-bed compartment is CZK 759, regardless of distance. The price includes a hygiene kit, a welcome pack with a small snack, and breakfast of your choice – sweet or savoury. If you book online via the ČD webshop or the Můj vlak app, you will also receive a free seat reservation for the Polish rail network, where these are mandatory.
