The number of people in foreclosure in the Czech Republic continues to fall – a welcome trend that also continued in the second quarter of 2025. At the same time, the number of new proceedings initiated against people who are already in debt is rising again.
The number of people in foreclosure continues to fall, as does the total number of proceedings. New data for the second quarter of 2025 confirms this long-term positive trend.
According to current figures, the number of affected individuals has fallen from 609,000 to 606,000 compared to the previous quarter. The number of ongoing enforcement proceedings decreased from 3.23 million to 3.16 million. This means the proportion of the adult population subject to enforcement proceedings is now just under 6.6 per cent. The decline is evident in almost all regions of the country.
At the end of June, 12.5 per cent of people aged over 15 in the Ústí nad Labem region were subject to foreclosure, compared to 11.2 per cent in the Karlovy Vary region. The Zlín region performed best, with 4.1 per cent.
Three-quarters of all people subject to enforcement proceedings are affected by at least two cases. In June, bailiffs demanded an average of 912,455 korunas from debtors. The highest average amount is recorded in Prague, where debtors owe more than 1.8 million korunas on average.
Even though the number of debtors has fallen, the number of new enforcement proceedings has risen year on year – for the fourth quarter in a row. In the second quarter of 2025, a total of 119,000 new proceedings were initiated, compared to 109,000 in the same period last year. However, the majority of these new enforcement proceedings concern debtors already known to the system.
