The Staroměstská metro station in Prague has been back in operation since this morning – but only for exiting passengers for the time being. Following the fire in early July, some restrictions remain in place as repair work is still ongoing.
Following the fire in early July, Prague’s Staroměstská metro station remains open with restrictions. According to Prague Public Transport (DPP), the station on line A reopened today, Wednesday, 23 July 2025. However, passengers can only use the station to exit. The entrance remains closed for the time being.
As part of the ongoing repair work, one of the damaged escalators has been successfully put back into operation using spare parts from other systems. Nevertheless, the complete restoration of the station remains a complex undertaking, which the transport company is working on intensively.
Originally, only some of the escalators in the station were scheduled for repair, but the fire also damaged the remaining systems. ‘DPP technicians are working hard to get the escalators back into operation as quickly as possible and to reopen the station. The escalators must be completely cleaned of fire damage, damaged cables replaced and the mechanical condition of the parts checked,’ explained a spokesperson.
Passengers are advised to use the neighbouring Malostranská station, which is fully operational. An exact date for the reopening of the station, including access, has not yet been set, but the transport company has announced that it will inform the public in good time.
