Czech Economy Grows by 2.4 Per Cent in the Second Quarter

    Household Spending Drives Economic Upswing

The Czech economy continued to gain momentum in the second quarter of 2025. According to the latest estimates from the Statistical Office, gross domestic product rose by 2.4 per cent year-on-year. The increase was driven primarily by higher household consumption.

The Czech economy expanded further in the second quarter of 2025, albeit only slightly compared to the start of the year. According to a flash estimate by the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ), seasonally and price-adjusted gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 0.2 per cent compared to the previous quarter. Year-on-year growth stood at a solid 2.4 per cent.

The main contributor to this rise was household spending, which grew for the fourth consecutive quarter. In contrast, the foreign trade deficit had a dampening effect on overall performance. “The economy grew year-on-year at the same pace as at the beginning of the year. The main driving forces were household consumption and investment,” said Vladimír Kermiet, Director of the National Accounts Department at the ČSÚ.

Gross value added (GVA) also showed positive development. Compared to the previous quarter, the sectors of trade, transport, accommodation, and hospitality recorded notable growth. The construction industry also expanded, while manufacturing showed slight weakness. Over the year, industry proved to be the strongest growth driver, followed by the above-mentioned service sectors. Overall, the majority of economic sectors recorded gains.

Employment also remained stable, rising by 0.4 per cent compared to the first quarter. Year-on-year, employment was one per cent higher.
