Škoda Auto opens futuristic offices in Prague with a focus on sustainability

After inaugurating the modern Laurin & Klement Campus last year, Škoda Auto is now unveiling a new concept in Prague’s AFI City building

Škoda Auto is continuing its drive towards modernisation: following the Laurin & Klement Campus, the car manufacturer has now introduced an innovative office concept in Prague. At AFI City, contemporary architecture, sustainable materials, and flexible workspaces merge to create a workplace designed for the future.

After making a mark with the Laurin & Klement Campus in Mladá Boleslav, Škoda Auto is now setting another architectural highlight in Prague. In the Vysočany district’s AFI City, the Czech carmaker has unveiled new office premises that stand out not only visually but also for their use of unusual materials and a clear commitment to the principles of a circular economy.

The new offices are intended to be more than just a functional workplace. Spread across six zones, they offer open spaces for spontaneous interaction, secluded areas for focused work, and modern meeting rooms for everything from team discussions to high-level strategic talks. At the heart of it all is a lounge designed like a small park, emphasising the idea of connection and exchange.

Old car parts transformed into office furniture

One of the most striking features is how many interior elements bear the hallmarks of the automotive industry – albeit in unexpected ways. Textiles from airbags deployed during crash tests have been repurposed as room dividers. Leftover bodywork pieces have been turned into decorative wall features. Even 50 Škoda Superb headlights now form the gateway to the new premises. The interior is complemented by furniture made from recycled plastics and 3D-printed elements, giving discarded office fittings a new lease of life.

Traditional materials such as wood, stone, and metal have been combined with recycled resources to create a warm yet modern atmosphere. Natural light, greenery, and open layouts are designed to enhance well-being and foster productivity among employees.

    Part of the sustainability strategy

Since 2022, Škoda Auto has been operating its IT department from AFI City, with an entire floor dedicated to the educational project “42 Prague”. By redesigning its offices, the company aims to send another clear signal: for this car manufacturer, innovation and sustainability go hand in hand.

The concept aligns with the company’s broader strategy of continuously improving its carbon footprint. Examples include projects like “Saturnin”, which reuses scrap metal, and the introduction of synthetic diesel HVO, produced from waste materials, for fuelling new vehicles and its logistics fleet.

With its new offices in Prague, Škoda Auto is demonstrating that the automotive industry and the circular economy are not mutually exclusive – but can, in fact, form an inspiring partnership.
