A new multifunctional hall, Arena Brno, is being built on the grounds of the Brno Exhibition Centre, with the construction now nearly complete in its shell phase. A decorated topping-out tree at the highest point symbolises the successful progress of this billion-crown project, which is scheduled to open in autumn next year.
Since Tuesday, a decorated topping-out tree has stood at the highest point of the new multifunctional hall, Arena Brno, next to the Brno Exhibition Centre. The tree traditionally marks the topping-out ceremony of the project and is meant to express gratitude to all those who have worked on the arena so far. At the same time, it symbolises the successful course of this billion-crown construction project. The opening is planned for autumn next year.

Since construction of the city arena began in 2023, with costs estimated at over five billion crowns, the shell phase is now almost complete. The roof structure is in place, and roofing is due to begin in September. Workers are fitting windows and working inside on plasterboard walls as well as on the technical infrastructure. While the construction was previously mainly visible from the outside, the focus is now primarily on interior work.
The selection of technology suppliers is expected to be completed in autumn. It will then become clearer how high the overall costs of the project will actually be. Originally, the Arena Brno was estimated to cost 4.4 billion crowns, but construction costs have so far risen by 300 to 350 million crowns.

The interior fit-out will also influence the completion date.
In addition to the interior work, Arena Brno is also managing the organisation of catering operations and finalising a partnership with a main sponsor. This is said to be a globally recognised brand, whose name may possibly be included in the hall’s name. When this partnership will be officially announced has not yet been revealed.

The arena will provide space for 13,300 visitors and will be the home of the ice hockey club HC Kometa Brno, the current Czech champions. Cultural events are also planned. However, as long as the completion date is not finalised, no contracts can be signed. Full operation of the arena, including concerts, is planned from early 2027.
