Red Bull Steep Street 2025: International Skateboarding Elite Hits Prague this Saturday

The second edition of the competition promises: Steeper. Faster. Harder.

High speed, tricks and pure adrenaline: on Saturday, Žitomírská Street in Prague 10 will become an arena for the international skateboarding elite. At Red Bull Steep Street, street flair meets competitive action.

On Saturday, 23 August, Prague’s Žitomírská Street will transform into a spectacular stage for some of the world’s best skateboarders. The occasion is the second edition of Red Bull Steep Street, a competition that combines high-speed descents with street skateboarding – and this year it will be even faster, more challenging and more creative.

“After the success of the premiere, we immediately knew we wanted a follow-up. It took a while, but now it’s finally happening – and I’m super happy. This time it will be even more extreme, even better riders are taking part, and overall we are taking the event to a new level,” explains Maxim Habanec, founder and one of the main organisers of the race.

Žitomírská – the San Francisco of Prague

While the premiere in 2023 still took place on Prague’s Letná Hill, the event now moves to Žitomírská Street in Prague 10. With its gradient and varied course, it is reminiscent of the legendary streets of San Francisco – world-famous among skateboarders. “Žitomírská is perfect. At some points it is extremely steep, at one junction slightly flatter, then it drops again. Around twelve obstacles are planned, supplemented by side elements so that riders can get creative and develop their own lines,” says Habanec.

    Speed and Tricks in Focus

The evaluation of the runs is based on a combination of speed, creativity and difficulty. Each skater can earn up to 100 points, from which the riding time is deducted. This means: only those who are both fast and skilled in tricks can reach the top. One crucial rule applies: the foot must not leave the board during the ride. Braking is done exclusively through slides, not with the sole of the shoe. “If someone falls, they can continue, but due to lost time they have hardly any chance of a top placement,” explains Habanec.

    International Stars Taking Part

Around 16 riders will compete, most of them from abroad – all continents are represented. Among them is Douwe Macare from the Netherlands, winner of the first Steep Street edition and Dutch champion in 2019. From the USA comes Jiro Platt, a 19-year-old exceptional talent in the scene. South Africa is represented by Brandon Valjalo – his country’s first Olympic skateboarder. Despite a broken wrist, he competed in Tokyo 2020, and at the 2024 Paris Games he finished twelfth. He is also a two-time African champion and four-time South African champion.

“This year, really anyone can win. The course is so special that it’s hard to predict who will handle it best. Perhaps even someone from the Czech Republic will cause a surprise,” concludes Habanec.
