Czech Post is stopping acceptance of goods shipments to the United States as of today. The reason is an order by the US government, which abolishes duty-free imports up to 800 dollars and leaves unresolved questions in the customs procedure.
From 22 August 2025, Czech Post (Česká pošta) will temporarily no longer accept parcels containing goods for the United States. The reason is a new order by US President Donald Trump, which abolishes the duty-free threshold (“de minimis”) for shipments up to 800 US dollars. The regulation officially enters into force on 29 August.
So far, however, the US authorities have not clearly defined either the exact procedures for the collection of duties or the technical data transmission to customs. Initial detailed information was only published on 15 August – too late to set up in time the necessary systems for the submission and pre-payment of customs duties, Czech Post said in a press release.
For Czech Post customers this means: parcels containing goods, regardless of value, can no longer be sent to the USA. Only consignments containing documents, letters, as well as gifts between private individuals of up to 100 US dollars in value are still permitted. Even these, however, must now be accompanied by a precise customs declaration. Even with correct declaration, longer processing times at US customs and therefore delayed deliveries are to be expected.
The Post stresses that the restriction is necessary already a week before the US order enters into force: from 29 August no non-cleared goods shipment may enter the USA. Since delivery after submission in the Czech Republic cannot be controlled in terms of timing, the Post can no longer provide a guarantee.
Further information will be published by Česká pošta on its website in the coming weeks, as soon as clarity on the procedure is provided by the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the Universal Postal Union.
