Construction Works on Karlovarská Street Completed a Week Earlier than Planned

A large part of the works benefited from sustainable construction methods

Good news for motorists in Prague: the extensive renovation of Karlovarská Street in Prague has already been completed a week earlier than planned. Instead of finishing at the end of August, the section is once again fully passable from today, Saturday.

The Technical Administration of Roadways (TSK) has completed the extensive renovation of Karlovarská Street in Prague one week ahead of schedule. Instead of the originally intended deadline of 31 August, the road section is already being fully reopened to traffic today, Saturday, 23 August 2025.

In less than two months, a stretch of around 900 metres between the Bílá hora tram loop and the Slánská Street junction has been fundamentally renewed.

In addition to a new asphalt layer of around 20 cm thickness, the “Ruzyňský hřbitov” bus stop now shines in renewed condition. Pavements, drainage systems, crash barriers and railings were also repaired or replaced. Finally, new road markings and traffic signs were installed.

    Use of Modern Recycling Technology

A large part of the works benefited from sustainable construction methods: on about two thirds of the section, the so-called “cold recycling technology” was used. In this process, the existing road foundation is mixed with binding agents such as cement and bitumen emulsion and then compacted. This method avoids costly removal, significantly reduces construction costs and is also considered an environmentally friendly solution.

With the modernised section, traffic safety in this busy area is expected to improve – and the new road surface should withstand stress in the long term. Karlovarská Street runs through Prague 6 and serves as an important connection to the D6 motorway towards the west, as well as an alternative route to Evropská Street towards Prague Airport.
