The Signal Festival returns to Prague in mid-October with spectacular light installations, including, for the first time, a 3D projection on a water screen. International highlights such as Bill Viola’s video art meet Czech creativity from Rafani and Pavla Sceranková.
From 16 to 19 October, the Signal Festival offers visitors another special highlight. In addition to the announcement that, for the first time in the festival’s history, the tower façade of the Old Town Hall will serve as a projection surface, a further spectacular projection will now be added: for the first time, a 3D projection will be shown on a water screen at the Dvořák Embankment.
The work Světlo Tzolk’inu, created by the Taiwanese studio Peppercorns, produces the impression of a floating hologram through projection onto mist – an effect that creates an almost magical atmosphere over the Vltava. Visitors will also be able to experience the legendary video installation Tristan’s Ascension (The Sound of a Mountain Under a Waterfall) by American video art pioneer Bill Viola in the Church of the Anežský Monastery.
The Czech scene is well represented: the artist collective Rafani and Pavla Sceranková present their latest works, while ten installations are freely accessible. Seven further works are part of the ticketed Signal INSIDE zone, offering a more intimate and immersive experience. Festival director Martin Pošta emphasises: “Signal allows us to showcase digital art from new perspectives time and again. Signal INSIDE offers seven immersive installations that let visitors fully immerse themselves in the works.”
