There have been previous incidents involving the Formula car on the D4 motorway

For years, a Formula racing car on the Czech D4 motorway has baffled authorities and motorists alike. On Sunday, the driver’s luck finally ran out: police apprehended a 51-year-old man near Příbram.

The mysterious Formula racing car, which has been attracting attention on Czech motorways for years, was stopped on Sunday. The police managed to catch the 51-year-old driver on the D4 near Příbram – this time behind the wheel.

At around 8:15 a.m., emergency services received a report via the 158 hotline that a Formula racing car had been seen at a petrol station on the D4 near Dobříš. Minutes later, another witness reported that the vehicle was now speeding along the motorway towards Příbram.

The operations centre responded immediately, dispatching several patrol cars and a police helicopter. About 15 minutes after the first report, officers from the Příbram station managed to stop the car in the village of Buk. According to a statement from the Czech police, the 51-year-old driver submitted to alcohol and drug tests – both of which came back negative.

The driver was taken to the police station but refused to make any statement. The case will now be forwarded to the relevant administrative authority. The man faces a driving ban and a fine of several thousand Czech crowns.

There have been previous incidents involving a Formula car on the D4, but prosecution had previously failed because the driver could not be identified under the helmet.

Formula racing cars are not approved for road use. According to the police, they lack indicators, lighting, and licence plates, and are considered highly dangerous due to sharp edges and the absence of safety features – posing a risk to both the driver and other road users.
