At the end of last week, the Prague 2 municipal authority presented its plans for the future development of Riegrovy Sady during an information event held at the Sokol club building in Královské Vinohrady.
During the event, municipal representatives discussed with local residents concrete steps to improve park management, remove illegal structures, and expand sports and leisure facilities. Many of the proposed measures depend on transferring selected areas into the city’s administration. The plan aims for a careful evolution of the park, maintaining a balance between active use and the protection of its natural and historical features.
Thursday’s presentation showcased both new projects and the planned reduction of certain existing facilities. The municipal authority intends to take a firm approach against illegal activities and constructions. Two areas are in particular focus: the Ice Sculpture Exhibition, Ice Magic, and the Containall area, which currently hosts a snack stand and various events.

Addressing these issues will form part of a wider revitalisation of a section of Riegrovy Sady, envisaged as a long-term project in two main phases. The first phase will concentrate on modernising and improving existing sports facilities. In the second phase, a multifunctional building will be constructed to complement the sports offerings of TJ Sokol Královské Vinohrady.
New rules are already under discussion to ensure harmonious coexistence and to protect residents’ peace. These include a clearly structured events calendar and transparent cooperation guidelines for clubs and local businesses. According to the municipal authority, noisy events will be limited, existing quiet areas will be prioritised, and the new rules will apply equally to all.

Some concrete changes are already known: on the sites of Ice Magic and Containall, a new multifunctional sports area will be created, featuring zones for parkour, cardio training, and general workouts. This will expand the previously insufficient capacity of the workout area in the upper part of the park. The full renovation of the popular children’s playground, U Draka, is also in an advanced planning stage. Overall, Prague 2 expects to spend around 60 million CZK annually on the development and management of Riegrovy Sady.
