The Czech Republic is gearing up for the digital transformation: with Prague Gateway, one of the most modern data centres in the region is being built on the outskirts of Prague. The billion-crown project by České Radiokomunikace is intended not only to set new standards in security and performance but also to pave the way for a potential AI Gigafactory.
The Czech telecommunications company České Radiokomunikace (CRA) has begun construction of the new Prague Gateway data centre in Jíloviště near Prague. It is set to be one of the largest and most modern facilities in Central and Eastern Europe and could in future play a key role in the planned AI Gigafactory project.
Construction is scheduled to take around two years, with the first customers expected to use the data centre in 2027. “Data centres are the backbone of the digital world. Their requirements in terms of security, energy demand and technical standards are steadily increasing. At Prague Gateway DC we are combining the best available today. With this, we want to help companies in the Czech Republic and abroad to keep pace with the rapid developments in artificial intelligence and beyond,” explained CRA Director General Miloš Mastník.

The project will be implemented in several stages. The data centre is aimed at customers with particularly high performance demands and operational standards – for example for international services with guaranteed availability or for the training of large language models.
In further expansion phases, the data centre could become an integral part of the planned AI Gigafactory – a European initiative to build large-scale capacity for the development and training of complex AI models. CRA has applied to take part in this as part of the AIGF CZ project and, if successful, would assume the role of coordinator.
The location of the new data centre is no coincidence: CRA is building it on its own site, previously used for operating medium-wave transmitters. With a total capacity of 26 megawatts and space for over 2,000 racks in twelve halls covering more than 4,000 square metres, Prague Gateway DC will be among the largest facilities of its kind in the region.
České Radiokomunikace already operates eight data centres in the Czech Republic, including three in Prague (Žižkov, Strahov, Cukrák), as well as in Brno, Ostrava, Pardubice, Zlín and Lužice.
