STEM Poll: ANO Still Ahead – Current Government Coalition Would Lose Majority

According to the latest polling figures, seven political parties would surpass the required five-per-cent threshold to enter the Chamber of Deputies

Less than two weeks before parliamentary elections in the Czech Republic, the ANO movement of former prime minister Andrej Babiš remains clearly the strongest party, according to a new STEM survey. The governing coalition Spolu continues to lose support.

With just over a fortnight to go until election day, Babiš’s opposition ANO currently stands at 30.9 per cent of the vote, the STEM poll for CNN Prima News shows. Although the party has slipped by 0.4 percentage points compared with the previous week, it still maintains a clear lead.

The Spolu coalition (ODS, KDU-ČSL and TOP 09) has fallen to 19.5 per cent. By contrast, the Mayors and Independents (STAN) have gained ground, rising to 12.2 per cent (+2.2), placing them third for the first time.

Close behind are the right-wing Freedom and Direct Democracy party (SPD) with 12 per cent, down slightly. The Pirate Party comes fifth with 9.3 per cent.

Also passing the five-per-cent threshold are the left-wing alliance Stačilo! (7.7 per cent) and Motoristé sobě, led by MEP Filip Turek, with 5.7 per cent.

In terms of seats, the result would translate into: ANO 68, Spolu 41, STAN and SPD 24 each, Pirates 19, Stačilo! 15 and Motoristé sobě nine. This would leave the current government coalition without a majority. A potential majority, however, could be formed by ANO together with SPD and Motoristé sobě, or alternatively in a three-party arrangement with SPD and Stačilo!.

The 2025 parliamentary elections in the Czech Republic will be held over two days, on 3 and 4 October. Prime Minister Petr Fiala’s government has been in office since 2021, after narrowly winning the last election with the Spolu alliance. Turnout in that election reached 65.4 per cent.
