KodlContemporary Opens in Prague’s Pařížská Street

The new gallery, designed by architect Marek Tichý, was created as part of the renovation of the new Fairmont Golden Prague Hotel

Prague now has a new destination for contemporary Czech art: KodlContemporary has opened in Pařížská Street. The gallery blends architectural history with innovative exhibition formats and caters to art enthusiasts from around the world.

In mid-September, a new gallery opened in Prague: KodlContemporary – a fresh venue for contemporary Czech art in an international context. Located on Pařížská Street, in close proximity to architecturally and symbolically significant buildings of modern Prague, the gallery positions itself at the very heart of the city’s cultural and collector scene.

Where once the history of Czech architecture was written, a new chapter in contemporary art has now begun. Situated next to the brutalist landmark of the former InterContinental Hotel (now the Fairmont Golden Prague) and opposite the Faculty of Law by Jan Kotěra and Ladislav Machoně, KodlContemporary unveils its new spaces.

The gallery, designed by architect Marek Tichý (TaK Architects) as part of the Fairmont Golden Prague Hotel renovation, integrates seamlessly into its urban surroundings while serving as a striking communicative and symbolic element in its own right. Its transparent façade fosters a visual dialogue with the city, while the thoughtfully designed interior allows for flexible and complexly staged exhibitions.

The inaugural exhibition, Bod 0 (Point 0), featured over thirty artists with whom the gallery had previously collaborated. Curator Jan Kudrna frames the exhibition as a symbolic fresh start: “Every minute, every second, every new brushstroke, every sculpture, every digital graphic creates a new ‘zero point’. This is the moment when both artist and viewer feel that something new is beginning – and yet familiar.”

Alongside the gallery, KC Editions opened in the immediate vicinity – a space dedicated to carefully selected, limited-edition works by leading Czech and Slovak artists. All pieces are created exclusively for KC Editions and available in strictly limited numbers. The aim is to bring contemporary art closer to a wider audience, encourage art collecting, and provide a platform where authenticity, quality, and originality converge.
