From January to the end of August 2025, a total of 953,433 passenger cars rolled off production lines in the Czech Republic – a decline of 2.1 per cent compared with the previous year. The summer months provided some positive momentum: despite factory holidays and the usual production breaks, 206,005 vehicles were manufactured in July and August, around 8.3 per cent more than in the same period of 2024.
“That we were able to surpass the results of the record year 2024 in the middle of summer is a very positive signal,” said Zdeněk Petzl, managing director of the automotive association AutoSAP. This, he added, helps to offset the weak output at the beginning of the year. At the same time, he warned that European sales of electric vehicles continue to lag significantly behind political objectives. A review of regulation is needed, he argued, to better reflect customer demand, safeguard technological diversity, and protect jobs both in Europe and in the Czech Republic.
Passenger Car Production in Detail
Market leader Škoda Auto recorded a slight increase in the first eight months: 610,274 vehicles were produced at its Czech plants, just over two per cent more than the previous year. The strongest growth came in electromobility – production of fully electric and plug-in hybrid models rose by more than 160 per cent and now accounts for more than a fifth of total output.
Hyundai in Nošovice fared less well: 193,940 cars were built there, around 30,000 fewer than last year. However, the share of electric models rose to nearly a quarter.
Toyota in Kolín produced 149,219 vehicles in the same period, a slight decrease of 1.4 per cent. More than half of these were hybrids. Thanks to a planned investment of 17 billion crowns, the plant is set to manufacture its first fully electric model for the European market in the future.
Buses and Motorcycles
Bus production saw strong growth: a total of 3,538 vehicles were produced by August, an increase of 21.8 per cent. The main driver was Iveco in Vysoké Mýto, with 3,299 buses. The electric segment expanded particularly dynamically – production of e-buses rose by more than 416 per cent to 253 units.
The figures for Jawa were less encouraging. The traditional motorcycle manufacturer produced only 525 machines up to August, a fall of almost a third compared with the previous year.
