FC Viktoria Plzeň changes ownership: Billionaire Strnad takes over the club in the Czech Republic’s beer capital

Strnad’s aim is for Viktoria to remain among the Czech Republic’s top clubs and to participate regularly in European competitions

Czech billionaire Strnad is set to become the majority owner of FC Viktoria Plzeň. Together with the existing management, he intends to strengthen the club on the sporting side, expand youth development, and ensure long-term economic stability.

The Czech corporate group Palatua a.s., owned by entrepreneur Michal Strnad, will become the majority owner of the football club FC Viktoria Plzeň. Strnad is also the owner of the industrial and technology group CSG, which is not directly involved in the acquisition. This is a private investment by Strnad.

At the end of last week, the purchase agreement for the majority stake was officially signed. Adolf Šádek will remain as Chairman and Chief Executive of the club, while Martin Dellenbach retains his position as a board member.

“I am delighted that Viktoria Plzeň now has a strong Czech majority owner who has built a globally active industrial group while remaining firmly rooted in the region. I look forward to working with Michal Strnad. We face major challenges ahead, which we will tackle together. A new era of Plzeň football begins!” said Adolf Šádek.

Šádek will retain a minority share, as will Swiss entrepreneur Martin Dellenbach. “Together with the new owner and Adolf Šádek, we will strategically develop Viktoria Plzeň, with a clear focus on nurturing young talent and economic stability. I am excited to build on the club’s existing successes and to drive it forward with a future-oriented approach,” Dellenbach explained.

Michal Strnad outlined his plans for the club: “Viktoria Plzeň is a club with a rich history and great significance for the city of Plzeň and the entire region. It is an honour for me to become part of this football project and to continue the club’s excellent work. My aim is for Viktoria to remain among the top clubs in Czech football and to compete regularly in European competitions. Collaboration with the city of Plzeň, the regional administration, and all club partners is of central importance to me.”

Strnad also emphasised the importance of youth development: “It is not just about top-level football. My goal is to fully support the Plzeň Football Academy. The future of Czech football lies in youth, and Viktoria can play a key role in this. My focus is not on short-term success, but on the club’s long-term sustainable development – both on the sporting and economic fronts.”

The transaction is still subject to approval by the Office for the Protection of Competition (ÚOHS). The club and Palatua a.s. ask the media, fans, and the public for patience: no further details will be released until the ÚOHS grants final approval.
