Prague has a new cultural hotspot: the Signal Festival is opening its first permanent gallery for digital art, Signal Space, in the Staroměstská tržnice. Across 2,500 m², historical architecture meets futuristic content, offering a year-round experience for visitors of all ages.
After more than ten years, the organisers of the Signal Festival have opened their first permanent gallery for digital art in Prague: Signal Space. The gallery has been open to the public since the beginning of the month in the long-closed Staroměstská tržnice and promises a year-round experience previously only seen in Berlin, New York, or Seoul.

The exhibition in the Staroměstská tržnice, a building constructed in 1896 based on a design by Jindřich Fialka, gains a new function through a three-year lease: a year-round platform where history meets futuristic content.
Part of the rooms has been carefully redesigned. All interventions are temporary and reversible, preserving the historic character while meeting the needs of contemporary art.

The gallery is financed through the Signal Festival’s own resources as well as support from investors. Across 2,500 m², digital art, movement, light, and sound combine with creativity and playful exploration. “The festival itself only takes place for four days each year; it is vibrant, surprising, and designed for a large audience. Signal Space, by contrast, is a more intimate, reflective space. The festival is the gateway, the gallery an invitation to deeper discovery,” explains Martin Pošta, founder and curator of Signal Space and the Signal Festival.

For children, there is the interactive area Signal Playground, which playfully encourages interest in new media and offers inspiring learning experiences. “We want Signal Space not only to invite observation but also to stimulate emotions and thoughts,” Pošta adds.
