Czech Parliamentary Elections in Numbers – Highest Turnout Since 1998

A total of six parties will enter the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic

The parliamentary election in the Czech Republic has been decided: the ANO movement led by Andrej Babiš has emerged as the clear winner, though it fell short of an absolute majority. In total, six parties will enter the Chamber of Deputies – with a record turnout of almost 69 per cent.

The Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ) has completed the processing of the election results and converted the votes into mandates. Altogether, six parties will enter the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. Voter turnout reached 68.95 per cent – the highest figure since 1998.

ANO clearly ahead – Babiš wins in 13 out of 14 regions

The clear winner of the election is the ANO 2011 movement, led by Andrej Babiš. It received 34.51 per cent of the vote and will hold 80 seats in the new parliament. In second place came the conservative alliance SPOLU (comprising ODS, KDU-ČSL and TOP 09) with 23.36 per cent and 52 seats. STAN (Mayors and Independents) finished third with 11.23 per cent and 22 seats, followed by the Pirates (8.97 per cent, 18 seats), the right-wing populist SPD (7.78 per cent, 15 seats) and the new Motoristé sobě movement (6.77 per cent, 13 seats). A simple majority requires at least 101 seats, while a constitutional majority demands 120 votes (three-fifths of MPs).

ANO won the most votes in 13 of the country’s 14 regions; only in Prague did SPOLU come out on top. Among Czech citizens voting abroad, SPOLU also led by a clear margin.

Record number of women in the new parliament

The new Chamber of Deputies will consist of 133 men and 67 women. The number of women rose by 17 compared to 2021 – the highest ever. “This is a record figure,” said Eva Krumpová, Deputy Chair of the Czech Statistical Office. The average age of elected MPs is 48.8 years. “The Chamber has thus become slightly younger than after the last election,” Krumpová added. The oldest MP is 75 years old, the youngest 21.

Marked regional differences in voter turnout

The highest participation was recorded in the Vysočina Region, where 72.53 per cent of eligible voters cast their ballots. The lowest turnout was in the Karlovy Vary Region, with 60.74 per cent. In the capital Prague, turnout reached 71.28 per cent.

A total of 26 parties and movements stood in the election, fielding 4,462 valid candidates, including 1,397 women (31.3 per cent). Full results are available at volby.cz.

The last data were received by the Statistical Office at 1:42 a.m. on Sunday. On Monday morning, the State Election Commission will review the official confirmation of the results, after which they will be published in the Official Gazette.
