Over 3,000 Publicly Accessible Charging Stations for Electric Vehicles in the Czech Republic

Prague in Particular Aims to Further Promote the Shift to Electromobility

The Czech Republic is continuing to expand its charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. More than 3,000 publicly accessible charging stations with over 5,600 charging points are now available nationwide.

Currently, 3,190 charging stations are registered in the Czech Republic, providing a total of 5,623 charging points. Especially high-powered charging points – those with a maximum output of over 22 kW – account for 2,030 of these points.

Prague in particular aims to further promote the shift to electromobility: in August, the city announced plans to build up to 1,500 public charging stations. At present, around 600 stations are in operation in the Czech capital. The multi-million-euro project is primarily aimed at those who do not have the option to charge at home and is also intended to contribute to cleaner air and reduced traffic noise.

The number of streetlights where electric vehicles can be charged is also increasing. As early as last year, Prague and Brno began expanding such charging points. At first glance, they look like ordinary streetlights but are equipped with sockets for electric vehicles. Cities such as Ostrava, Plzeň and Karlovy Vary are still relying on traditional charging stations for now.

An overview of all charging stations is continuously updated and is available on the website www.cistadoprava.cz.
