For the 11th time, the Prague district of Praha 2 will honour the country’s war veterans on 11 November at Náměstí Míru. The all-day event commemorates courage, selflessness, and service to the fatherland – with a varied programme, exhibitions, and a formal commemorative ceremony.
On Tuesday, 11 November, Praha 2 will host the Veterans Day commemorative event for the eleventh time. As every year, the event takes place at Náměstí Míru – in collaboration with the Czech Armed Forces, the Czechoslovak Legionnaire Community, the Association of War Veterans of the Czech Republic, and the Military History Institute. Visitors can expect a diverse daily programme, including presentations by the army, military education initiatives, and numerous accompanying activities.

The morning is traditionally dedicated to schools. Children from kindergartens and primary schools test their knowledge and skills, experience modern and historical military technology up close, and learn more about the work of the Czech army. As a special mark of appreciation, pupils present self-painted pictures, which are then forwarded to soldiers on overseas missions.
The official part begins at 2 p.m. High-ranking representatives from politics, civil society, and the military are expected. The programme includes the ceremonial awarding of selected war veterans and a commemorative act for all those who lost their lives in service to the fatherland. The day concludes with a joint service and prayer for the fallen of all wars.

In addition to the stage programme, numerous exhibitions and static demonstrations are open until 6 p.m. Visitors can also honour fallen soldiers – for example, by laying a flower, placing a small wooden cross with a personal message, or purchasing the well-known red poppy, the symbol of Veterans Day.
Those wishing to support the veterans can do so now. The nationwide fundraising campaign “Vlčí mák České republiky pro naše válečné veterány” (“Red Poppy of the Czech Republic for our War Veterans”) runs from today, 29 October, until 11 November 2025 at hundreds of locations across the country.

All proceeds from the collection go entirely to the Military Solidarity Fund, which supports veterans, soldiers, and their families in difficult life situations.
