Metro Line: Olbrachtova is the first station of the section between Pankrác and Olbrachtova whose tunnel work has been fully completed. This brings the completion of the line’s southern connection a step closer.
Construction of the first section of Prague’s new Metro Line D, between Pankrác and Olbrachtova, which the Prague Public Transport Company (DPP) began in April 2022, has reached an important milestone: Olbrachtova is the first station of the section whose tunnel work is fully complete.

Excavation at the station began on 17 February 2023 and was completed as scheduled after around 19 months. During construction, 61,160 cubic metres of rock were excavated, 1,156 tonnes of reinforcing steel installed, around 20,000 cubic metres of shotcrete applied, and more than 13,800 cubic metres of cast concrete used in the inner concrete shell.

Tunnel Work Almost Complete
With the completion of work at Olbrachtova, all line and service tunnels of the section are now finished – including the connection between Lines C and D. The two escalator tunnels, which will lead to the station’s northern and southern entrances, are also complete.
Work continues only at the future Pankrác D station: the central part of the station cavern, sections of the vault, and the floor on the left-hand excavation towards the escalator tunnel under the Gemini office complex still need to be completed. The remaining escalator and technical shafts have already been fully excavated. Overall, less than 16 per cent of the tunnel work remains.

In parallel, the installation of waterproofing, the construction of the final concrete shell, and the building of the station halls are ongoing. In addition, the interchange connection between Lines C and D, as well as the modernised Pankrác C station, is being constructed.

A Milestone for the South of Prague
Construction of the first section of Line D is on schedule. The new metro link is considered one of the capital’s most important infrastructure projects and is expected to connect the densely populated southern districts with the city centre – a decisive step for sustainable mobility in Prague.
