This coming Saturday, the autumn campaign Sbírka potravin will once again take place in the Czech Republic. Thousands of volunteers will collect non-perishable food and toiletries for people in need – from single parents to the elderly and homeless.
More than a million people in the Czech Republic live at the poverty line – over half of them are single parents with young children. Yet time and again, the Czechs show that solidarity and mutual assistance are firmly embedded in society.
On Saturday, 8 November, the autumn food collection campaign (Podzimní Sbírka potravin) calls on people to lend a hand to exactly these individuals. Over 5,000 volunteer helpers in green aprons will be stationed in selected partner supermarkets across the country to receive donations.

The campaign takes place in more than 2,800 physical stores as well as at participating online retailers. Non-perishable food and toiletries can be donated between 08:00 and 18:00. Donations can also be made online from 4 to 18 November.
The donations go directly to those in need: the elderly, single parents, families in crisis situations, homeless people, or people with disabilities – often even directly within their own neighbourhoods.
The food campaign is considered the country’s largest charitable event and is based on the commitment of thousands of volunteers, shop staff, and NGOs. Donated goods are first delivered to food banks and from there distributed directly to those in need via charitable organisations.
Since 2019, the campaign has been held twice a year and is organised by the Czech Federation of Food Banks, the Association for Trade and Tourism of the Czech Republic (SOCR), and other partners from the business and non-profit sectors. Its patrons include the President of the Republic Petr Pavel, the Minister of Agriculture Marek Výborný, the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Marian Jurečka, and the European Federation of Food Banks.
