Summer 2025: More Guests, Longer Stays – the Czech Republic Remains in Demand

Prague remains by far the most visited destination with over 2 million visitors

The desire to travel to the Czech Republic remains unbroken: Prague, in particular, is highly popular. At the same time, tourism is growing across the entire country – no longer limited to the capital.

The summer season of 2025 brought new records for tourism in the Czech Republic – largely thanks to rising numbers from abroad. Prague, as well as the South Moravian and South Bohemian regions, particularly benefited from the continued high travel demand.

Between July and September 2025, 7.9 million guests stayed in Czech hotels, guesthouses, and other accommodation establishments. In total, they spent 21.2 million nights there – an increase of around one per cent compared to the previous year. About 42 per cent of the guests came from abroad. The average length of stay was 3.7 days.

Prague Leads – Regions Catching Up

Most international guests came, as usual, from Germany (660,000), Poland (340,000), and Slovakia (288,000). Increases were also seen among travellers from the United Kingdom and Austria.

Prague remains by far the most visited destination, with over 2.2 million visitors – almost one in three stays took place in the capital. Following are the South Moravian region (848,000 guests) and South Bohemia (792,000), which attract visitors with cultural events, wine tourism, and scenic diversity. In terms of overnight stays, Prague also leads (5.3 million nights), followed by South Bohemia (2.3 million) and South Moravia (1.9 million).

The longest stays were recorded in the Karlovy Vary District – an average of 4.8 days. The classic short trip is typical for Prague (3.4 days) and South Moravia (3.2 days).

Steady Growth and New Source Markets

A look at the long-term development since 2012 shows continuous growth in Czech tourism. The pandemic only briefly interrupted this trend – since then, the sector has recovered significantly, not only in Prague but also in spa and recreational regions. While visitors from neighbouring countries still dominate, an increasing number of travellers come from Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America.

Hotels Remain the Preferred Accommodation for Tourists

In the third quarter of 2025, 4.8 million guests – around 60 per cent of all visitors – chose a hotel. The number of overnight stays thus rose by 4.1 per cent compared to the previous year. Guesthouses also recorded a strong increase: 1.1 million guests used these accommodations, a rise of 4.5 per cent, with about one fifth being international visitors. In contrast, camping sites saw a decline, while holiday resorts and other tourist accommodations increased slightly.
