Exploring “The Faces of Brazil”: Kino Brasil Film Festival Returns with a Fresh Perspective

All films are screened in their original versions, accompanied by Czech and English subtitles

The Kino Brasil Festival returns this year under the theme “The Faces of Brazil,” inviting audiences to discover a side of the country beyond samba, carnival, and football. Through a selection of seven films, the festival highlights overlooked stories and authentic glimpses of Brazilian life.

This year, the Kino Brasil Festival invites audiences to look beyond the familiar images of samba, carnival, and football, with the theme “The Faces of Brazil.” From 20 to 30 November 2025, the festival aims to showcase a Brazil that is vibrant, diverse, and far more complex than the stereotypes suggest.

Held annually, the festival has become a meeting point for travelers, Brazil enthusiasts, and film lovers, offering a unique platform for cultural exchange and international friendships. All films are screened in their original versions, accompanied by Czech and English subtitles to ensure that everyone can enjoy the cinematic experience.

According to festival programmer Gabriela Šmaiclová, the chosen theme reflects the country’s rich diversity. “When we decided on the theme ‘The Faces of Brazil,’ images of various smiling faces immediately came to my mind. Brazilians are warm, spontaneous, and creative. Even in the face of adversity, they find something to laugh about,” Šmaiclová said.

The seven films selected for this year’s festival share a common goal: both in front of and behind the camera, filmmakers aim to bring attention to overlooked stories. Through these works, audiences are transported to a distant tropical world while gaining glimpses beneath the surface, discovering authentic testimonies of a Brazil that few might have imagined.

Beyond the screenings, the festival offers a rich accompanying program that starts a week prior to the main event. Highlights include a PUB QUIZ in English and a lively Brazilian party, designed to deepen visitors’ understanding of the country’s culture and traditions.

Since its inception, the Kino Brasil Festival has been a labor of love, built from the ground up with passion and dedication. Over the past ten years, it has become both a source of energy and a hub for knowledge, bringing together old friends and new acquaintances who share a fascination with Brazil.

This year, “The Faces of Brazil” promises to continue that tradition, inviting audiences to celebrate the country’s complexity, creativity, and enduring spirit.
