Toyota has launched production of the new Aygo X Hybrid at its Kolín plant. The model is the first full hybrid vehicle in Europe’s A-segment and offers the lowest CO₂ emissions of all non-plug-in cars. This makes hybrid technology more affordable and environmentally friendly for city drivers than ever before.
Toyota has commenced production of the new Toyota Aygo X Hybrid at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Czech Republic (TMMCZ) in Kolín. With the Aygo X Hybrid, Toyota is bringing a full hybrid vehicle to the A-segment market for the first time. The new model means Toyota now offers electrified powertrain options across all major passenger car segments in Europe.
Aygo production began as early as February 2005. The third generation, the Aygo X, was introduced in 2021, featuring a crossover-inspired design. Since 2022, more than 365,000 units have been produced.

The new Aygo X Hybrid is manufactured at the TMMCZ plant in Kolín, where modern materials, optimised production processes and logistics measures further reduce the environmental footprint. The plant employs around 3,200 staff, with approximately 65 per cent of components sourced locally. Since its opening in 2005, the plant has produced over 4.5 million vehicles, including models such as the Aygo, Aygo X and Yaris. Additionally, the plant is preparing for the future production of battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) to strengthen Toyota’s CO₂ neutrality strategy. Recently, Toyota announced extensive investments of around €680 million for this purpose.
Robert Kiml, President of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Czech, said: “We are pleased to start production of the Aygo X Hybrid while also advancing preparations for electric vehicle manufacturing. This milestone is another step on our journey towards CO₂ neutrality. The introduction of the GR SPORT version also adds a unique chapter to the Aygo story.”
Peter Rade, Vice President for Quality at Toyota Motor Europe, emphasised: “The Aygo X, the first vehicle developed, designed and produced in Europe, now brings our hybrid technology across the entire passenger car portfolio. With our multi-path powertrain strategy, we are helping customers across Europe reduce their CO₂ footprint quickly and effectively.”
Toyota aims to be fully CO₂ neutral in Europe by 2040, with all European production plants achieving this by 2030. TMMCZ continuously works towards this goal through increased energy efficiency, the use of renewable energy and innovative manufacturing processes.
