At the end of November, the Goethe-Institut Prague invites visitors to a pre-Christmas day full of creativity, music, and readings. Families can look forward to workshops, a children’s film club, and festive activities for all ages.
On Saturday, 29 November, from 11:00 to 16:00, the Goethe-Institut Prague opens its doors for a day of Advent activities. Families with children can enjoy creative workshops, music, readings, and a children’s film club. Admission is free.
“Our Advent programme has been taking place for several years. Alongside a relaxed festive atmosphere with sweets, games, music, and singing, we place particular emphasis on the creativity of our visitors – including the youngest – as well as the use of recycled materials,” explains Adele Newman, Head of the CYCLE UP! Sustainability Project at the Goethe-Institut.

Visitors can look forward to a varied programme: the children’s chamber ensemble Cenerentola will perform songs from the fairy tale Three Wishes for Cinderella, a classic in both the Czech Republic and Germany. Pianist Lenka Vlček invites everyone to sing along with Christmas carols, and in a workshop, Mexican author Laura Elena Rodríguez Garcidueñas will explain how chocolate is made – including a small tasting session.
Additionally, visitors can embroider their own Christmas cards under the guidance of Amila Hrustic, or create Christmas decorations from recycled and natural materials with Ester Rosíková. The programme also includes workshops for designing notebooks (SKOBA) and personalised wrapping paper. “The programme is complemented by a Czech-German reading of a Christmas story and the bilingual children’s film club FilmED for children from the age of three,” adds Petra Kulovaná, Head of the Goethe-Institut Library.
All activities are free, and no registration is required. Further information can be found at www.goethe.de/tschechien (GER).
