World’s Best Cities Report 2025: Prague ranks 38th among the world’s best cities

Prague remains within the top 50 of the world's best cities, but has slipped five places compared with last year

In the current World’s Best Cities Report 2025 by Resonance Consultancy, the Czech capital reaches 38th place. Its landmarks, vibrant nightlife, and numerous other advantages are particularly highlighted, making Prague attractive for both residents and visitors alike.

For the report, Resonance Consultancy annually analyses more than 270 cities with at least one million inhabitants to determine the Top 100. Quantitative data, qualitative assessments, and recommendations from locals and tourists on platforms such as TripAdvisor and Facebook are all taken into account. Three key evaluation criteria are at the centre of the analysis: quality of life, likeability, and prosperity.

    The leaders of 2025

The “Capital of Capitals” London secures first place once again – for the eleventh consecutive time. The British metropolis performs especially strongly in the subcategories of prosperity, likeability, and quality of life, ranking 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively.

New York follows in second place, remaining ahead of Paris, which again takes third this year. The bustling US metropolis thus remains at the top of American cities, while the French capital maintains its position among the top three.

Prague: Focusing on residents’ needs pays off

Prague’s post-pandemic strategy is showing results: fundamental quality-of-life factors, such as health (top 5) and living standards (#6), are complemented by the continuous expansion of cultural and mobility offerings. Along the Vltava, the city is investing in user-friendly riverfront zones: markets and galleries enliven the vaulted arches of the Náplavka, while open-air concerts take place on the Čapadlo embankment – factors that contribute to 16th place for “Landmarks & Attractions” and 17th in nightlife.

The museum scene also attracts visitors: Kunsthalle Praha, the DOX Centre, and the citywide locations of the National Gallery contribute to 16th place in the Museums category. Festivals such as the Signal Festival bring culture into the city streets.

At the same time, urban development is progressing: construction of the new Metro Line D south of Pankrác is underway, while the Smíchov-City project is creating new housing for different income groups and office spaces along an intermodal terminal. Around Masaryk Station (Masarykovo nádraží), Zaha Hadid’s Masaryčka has established a new shopping and office centre, while the Savarin Palace on Wenceslas Square has reopened with the Alfons Mucha Museum.

Investments in the hotel and hospitality sector continue this trend: W Prague revitalised the Grand Hotel Evropa on Wenceslas Square, and the Fairmont Golden Prague Hotel opened its doors in April 2025. With 25th place in the overall “Quality of Life” index, Prague looks forward to a highly liveable future.
