The Filmasia Festival is once again bringing the most exciting films from Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, Thailand and Taiwan to Prague at the beginning of December. Under the theme “Twists and Returns”, the festival showcases a selection that plays with expectations, pushes boundaries and tells stories of return, memory and unexpected twists.
The Asian film festival Filmasia will take place from 4 to 8 December at Prague’s Bio Oko. Since 2005, the festival has been presenting outstanding works of contemporary Asian cinema in Prague every year. This year’s selection is again not defined by geographical criteria, but by a shared theme: “Twists and Returns” – surprising twists, motifs of return and playful breaks with expectations.

Three sections, nine films, five countries
Under “Life After Life”, Filmasia explores life after death – featuring the opening film The Last Dance from Hong Kong, the Thai absurd tragicomedy A Useful Ghost, and the Korean zombie family story My Daughter Is a Zombie. The “Survival Mode” section presents two cult classics: the brutal social satire Battle Royale and Park Chan-wook’s masterpiece Oldboy. “Under Pressure” focuses on women – with Stanley Kwan’s Center Stage, the sensitive Hong Kong drama Someone Like Me, and the Taiwanese generational film Daughter’s Daughter.
Return to places, people and memories
The festival programme shows how differently Asian filmmakers interpret the motif of return: as intergenerational conflict, as immortal love, as familial scars or as a struggle for survival. Filmasia 2025 combines major names of Asian cinema with new voices – and invites audiences to rediscover the boundaries between life, death and memory through film.
