    Supermarket Opening Hours and Transport Information for the 2025 Holidays in Prague

    The holidays are just around the corner, so we have compiled the most important information on supermarket opening hours and the operation of Prague’s public transport for you. Here is your handy guide for grocery shopping and careful planning of your journey home on New Year’s Eve.

    In the Czech Republic, shops with an area of over 200 square metres must remain closed on certain public holidays, including Thursday 25 and Friday 26 December, as well as New Year’s Day (01/01/2026). Exceptions include pharmacies, petrol stations, and shops at airports and train stations.

    Supermarket opening hours on Wednesday 24 December 2025:

    • Lidl: Open until 11:30
    • Globus: Open until 11:45
    • Billa: Open until 11:45
    • Albert: Open until 11:45
    • Kaufland: Open until 11:45
    • Tesco: Open until 11:45
    • Penny Market: Closed

    On Tuesday 31 December, supermarkets are open. However, opening hours on New Year’s Eve differ from those on a normal shopping day.

    Supermarket opening hours on New Year’s Eve 2025:

    • Lidl: Open until 17:00
    • Billa: Open until 17:00
    • Penny Market: Open until 17:00
    • Tesco: Open until 18:00
    • Albert: Open until 18:00
    • Kaufland: Open until 18:00
    • Globus: Open until 18:00

    The grocery delivery services Rohlík and Košík are also operating on 26 December, 31 December, and 1 January, delivering orders as usual.

    Public Transport in Prague During the Holidays

    The Prague Public Transport Company has published its timetable for the holidays. On 24 December, buses and trams run according to the Saturday schedule until 18:00, after which night service begins. The metro operates until midnight at 20-minute intervals after 18:00.

    On public holidays, Prague Integrated Transport lines run according to the Sunday timetable. On Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 December, the usual weekday schedule applies.

    On New Year’s Eve, the metro runs until approximately 02:00 (1 January 2026) at 10-minute intervals. Trams run at increased frequency from 22:00 to 03:30, followed by a 20-minute interval service until 07:00 in the morning.
