Changes in Prague Public Transport from January 2026: New Fares, Bans and Higher Penalties

Single tickets will become more expensive, while purchasing tickets via the PID-Lítačka mobile app will be made more attractive

From January 2026, new rules will apply to public transport in Prague. Single tickets will increase in price, electric bicycles and e-scooters will no longer be allowed on the metro, and penalties for fare evasion will be increased.

From 1 January 2026, the new fare structure of the Prague Integrated Transport (PID) comes into effect. Prices for monthly and annual passes within the city will remain unchanged; increases will only apply to single tickets. At the same time, buying tickets via the PID-Lítačka mobile app is intended to become more appealing.

    Key Fare Changes

Single tickets will become more expensive both in Prague and in the Central Bohemian Region (Středočeský kraj). The price increase was approved by the city administration in August. Purchasing tickets via the PID-Lítačka app remains worthwhile. Tickets for tourists (24 and 72 hours), luggage, dogs, and the Airport Express are also affected by the price increases. In the Central Bohemian Region, prices for monthly and annual passes will also rise.

New Transport Rules: Ban on E-Bikes and E-Scooters in the Metro

For safety reasons, from 1 January 2026, electric bicycles, e-scooters, and other electrically powered vehicles will no longer be permitted on the metro. E-bikes with removed batteries are exempt.

Carrying bicycles, however, will be simplified: bicycles may now be taken on all train doors except the front door in the direction of travel. The maximum number remains limited to two bicycles per platform.

Penalties from January 2026 for Travelling Without a Ticket

    • 1,200 CZK on the spot
    • 1,500 CZK within 15 days
    • 2,000 CZK in all other cases
    • Late proof of subscriptions, concessions, or free travel: 50 CZK within 15 days
    • Unpaid transport fees for dogs or luggage: 200–600 CZK
    • Other breaches of transport rules: 1,000–2,000 CZK

In the Central Bohemian Region, penalties were already adjusted from 1 August 2025.

    Digital Tickets: Update the App

To purchase tickets via the PID-Lítačka app after 1 January, an updated version is required. Most updates occur automatically, but users should still check.

    Returning Old Tickets

Tickets that are no longer valid after 1 January 2026 can be returned at all DPP sales points between 2 and 31 January. Afterwards, returns are only possible until 30 June at the central DPP sales office in Prague 2, Na Bojišti, near I. P. Pavlova metro station. In the app, non-activated tickets are automatically refunded.
