
Franz, Sbormistr and Karavan Lead Nominations for the 33rd Český lev Awards
The awards ceremony will take place in mid-March for the first time at the Prague Congress Centre

The Czech Film and Television Academy (ČFTA) has published the nominations for the 33rd Český lev awards. The most nominations went to Franz, Sbormistr and Karavan, which lead the field across a total of 24 categories.
Today, the Czech Film and Television Academy (ČFTA) announced the nominations for the 33rd edition of the Český lev film awards. In 24 regular categories, a total of 32 films, series and miniseries advanced to the final round of voting. Overall, 94 productions were considered, all of which premiered in 2025.
The highest number of nominations went to the films Franz, Sbormistr and Karavan. Also strongly represented are Letní škola, 2001, Nahoře nebe, v dolině já and the miniseries Studna.
The awards ceremony will take place on 14 March for the first time at the Prague Congress Centre and will be broadcast live by Česká televize on ČT1. The evening will be hosted by stand-up comedian Bianca Cristovao, with Matěj Chlupáček once again taking on overall creative direction.

The voting process among ČFTA members ran from 1 December 2025 to 11 January 2026. With 15 nominations, Franz by director Agnieszka Holland enters the race as the favourite. The film is inspired by the life, work and inner world of Franz Kafka. Sbormistr by Ondřej Provazník received 13 nominations and addresses the issue of abuse of power within an internationally renowned girls’ choir. Eleven nominations went to the road movie Karavan by Zuzana Kirchnerová, which explores freedom, love and the desire for a fresh start.
Eight nominations were awarded to the feature film debut Letní škola, 2001 by Dužan Duong, which offers an authentic look at the Vietnamese community in Bohemia. The coming-of-age drama Nahoře nebe, v dolině já by Katarína Gramatová follows with seven nominations. The miniseries Studna, directed by Tereza Kopáčová, received five nominations.
In the key categories – Best Feature Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay – Franz, Karavan, Letní škola, 2001, Nahoře nebe, v dolině já and Sbormistr will compete. In the Best Documentary Film category, nominations include Raději zešílet v divočině and Velký vlastenecký výlet.

The acting categories are also strongly represented. Anna Geislerová received two nominations – for her roles in the film Karavan and the series Ratolesti. Other nominees include Elizaveta Maximová, Ivan Trojan, Idan Weiss and Juraj Loj.
In the series and miniseries categories, Král Šumavy 2 – Agent chodec, Moloch, Studna, OKTOPUS II and Ratolesti were nominated. In addition, five animated films and five short films will compete for the coveted Lion statuette.
Alongside the regular categories, the non-statutory Magnesia Award for Best Student Film will also be presented during the gala, carrying prize money of CZK 100,000. Special awards were already presented at the nominations press conference: the film Na plech received the Audience Award, while the award for Best Film Poster went to Michal Čermín for Franz.
A selection of the nominated films will be available online via DAFilms from 2 to 22 March, as well as screened as part of a special programme at Cinestar multiplex cinemas.
