Prague Metro Station Flora to Close for Ten Months from 2 February Due to Renovation Works

Preliminary works have been under way since early October 2025. In the meantime, all ceiling cladding has been removed in the vestibule and in the tunnel beneath Vinohradská Street

Prague metro station Flora on Line A is undergoing a comprehensive modernisation. From early February 2026, the station will be completely closed for around ten months due to construction works and the replacement of the escalators.

The works to fully modernise Prague’s Flora metro station on Line A are entering a decisive phase. The core element of the project is the replacement of the more than 45-year-old, three-strand Soviet-era escalators. As the station has only a single exit from the platform, Flora — including the entrance hall and the pedestrian underpass beneath Vinohradská Street — will be completely closed for around ten months from Sunday evening, 1 February 2026.

According to Prague Public Transport Company (DPP), passengers will be advised to use the neighbouring stations Želivského and Jiřího z Poděbrad during the closure, or to take the regular tram lines 10, 11, 13 and 16. The reopening of the modernised station is scheduled for late November or early December 2026.

Work has already been under way since early October 2025. All ceiling cladding has now been removed in the vestibule and in the tunnel beneath Vinohradská Street. At vestibule level, the dismantling of the existing sanitary facilities and retail units is currently in progress. On the platform, the ceiling and wall cladding of all three naves, as well as the wall surfaces along the tracks, have been removed, and on one track the protective canopies have also been dismantled. At the same time, work is continuing in the station’s technical areas and at street level, where an excavation is being carried out for the future lift shaft and an emergency staircase. Nearly ten of the planned 22 metres have been completed so far; excavation of the connecting passage is to begin next.

After services end on the night of 1 to 2 February 2026, full dismantling work across the entire station will begin. Initially, the old escalators and their machine rooms will be removed. Over the course of around ten months, water ingress will be remedied, new retaining walls constructed, modern escalators and associated technology installed, and dozens of kilometres of power, data and ventilation lines, lighting, wall cladding and the substation will be renewed. This will be followed by the refitting of the station and commissioning.

Impact on public transport:

From Monday, 2 February 2026, Flora station will be closed for approximately ten months. During this period, Line A trains will pass through the station at reduced speed without stopping.

As replacement connections, the transport company recommends tram services from the surrounding Line A metro stations:

  • Náměstí Míru – lines 10, 11 and 16

  • Jiřího z Poděbrad – line 13

  • Želivského – line 16

For pedestrians, the closure means that the underpass beneath Vinohradská Street will not be accessible for the entire duration of the works. Shops and public toilets will remain closed, and the street may only be crossed at designated pedestrian crossings.
