Shortly before the opening of the new Vltava bridge between Prague 4 and Prague 5, residents can vote on its future name. Two proposals are up for selection.

In Prague, the inhabitants of the capital can vote on the name of the new bridge between the districts of Podolí and Zlíchov. Citizens can choose from today until 9 February 2026 between the names Dvorecký Bridge and Anežka Česká Bridge. Voting is possible online via the Prague citizen portal “Portál Pražana” as well as in paper form at selected municipal buildings.

The new Vltava crossing, previously known under the working title Dvorecký Bridge, is currently in the final stage of construction. In view of the project’s significance, the city has decided to actively involve the public in the naming process. The result of the citizen vote will be supplemented by a professional opinion from the Prague City Council’s Commission on Place Names. The final decision will then be made by the City Council.

All verified users of the “Portál Pražana” may vote, with each person allowed to cast only one vote. The city emphasises that the digital process is designed to be transparent and compliant with data protection regulations. In addition, printed ballots are available during regular opening hours at the Škodův Palace on Jungmannova Street and at the New Town Hall on Mariánské náměstí.

Prague’s Mayor, Bohuslav Svoboda, also underlined the importance of citizen participation. The new bridge is not only a transport structure but a permanent element of the city’s space and Prague’s identity. The chosen name should reflect this role and enjoy broad approval.

Once completed, the new bridge will provide an important connection between Prague 4 and Prague 5. It is intended for public transport as well as for cyclists and pedestrians. Commissioning is planned for April this year. The construction costs, including lighting design and surrounding landscaping, amount to around 1.49 billion crowns excluding VAT. The bridge, made of white concrete, was designed by the architectural firms Atelier 6 and TUBES, with a design inspired by cubist and brutalist elements.
