The number of new companies in the Czech Republic rose significantly in 2025. According to CRIF, around 35,000 firms were founded – almost double the number of recorded insolvencies.

In 2025, the number of new companies in the Czech Republic increased sharply. According to the Czech Credit Bureau (CRIF), based on data from the portal www.informaceofirmach.cz, 34,860 new firms were established last year, while 17,810 ceased operations. This represents an increase of 17,050 companies – a rise of 23 percent compared with the previous year.

“The pace of company formations significantly outstripped the number of insolvencies last year,” explains Věra Kameníčková, analyst at CRIF. “Thirteen percent more companies were founded than in 2024, while the number of businesses leaving the market rose by only four percent. This marks the largest growth in firms since 2018. Factors contributing to this include economic growth, low inflation, and rising household demand for goods and services. By contrast, high interest rates posed a challenge for some businesses.”

Majority of New Companies in Prague

Traditionally, most new companies are founded in the capital: 17,762 businesses started in Prague in 2025. South Moravia follows with 4,249, then Central Bohemia (2,341) and Moravian-Silesian (2,229). These four regions together account for more than three-quarters of all new company formations. The fewest new businesses were established in Karlovy Vary (420) and the Vysočina Region (585).

Growth Across Almost All Regions

In twelve of the 14 regions, the number of newly founded companies rose compared with 2024. Olomouc recorded the largest increase with 28 percent, followed by Pilsen (23 percent) and South Moravia (15 percent). In Prague and Ústí nad Labem, the number grew by 13 percent each. Declines were seen only in Zlín (-5%) and Liberec (-1%).

The most insolvencies in 2025 were recorded in Prague (8,757), followed by South Moravia (1,988), Liberec (1,073), Moravian-Silesian (1,036) and Ústí nad Labem (1,035). The number of closed businesses rose particularly sharply in Liberec (+140%), Pardubice (+76%) and Pilsen (+44%).

Sectors in Focus

Last year, the majority of new companies were established in trade (4,534), followed by construction (3,714) and real estate (3,365). Manufacturing (3,221) as well as professional, scientific and technical services (3,149) also saw numerous start-ups.

The number of new companies rose particularly sharply in transport and storage (+27%), construction and trade (+19% each). A decline was recorded only in the real estate sector (-8%).

In terms of insolvencies, trade led with 5,220 closed companies, followed by real estate (3,353) and manufacturing (1,537).
