The Pilsen brewery Plzeňský Prazdroj draws visitors from around the world: particularly popular were the classic tours of Pilsner Urquell, Gambrinus and Elektrárna, which showcase the heart of Pilsner beer production.
More than 530,000 people visited the world-famous Pilsen brewery Plzeňský Prazdroj last year. The historic brewery complex was able to impress not only with new offerings along its visitor routes, but also with a special accolade: the brewery restaurant Na Spilce was included in the prestigious Michelin Guide.
The brewery grounds alone welcomed over 460,000 guests. Once again, the classic tour routes – Pilsner Urquell, Gambrinus and Elektrárna – focusing on beer production were particularly popular. The Pilsner Urquell route was enhanced in 2024 with a new interactive exhibition dedicated to the key ingredients of the famous Pilsner lager – from brewing barley malt to Saaz hops, the soft Pilsner water and the brewery’s own yeast strain. In addition, a shortened tapping school was added to the offerings. “This makes a visit to our brewery even more comprehensive,” says Pavla Mášková, Head of Visitor Services at Plzeňský Prazdroj. The quality of the experience has also been recognised internationally: in 2024, the Pilsner Urquell tour was awarded Best Brewery Tour in Europe at the World Travel Awards.

As usual, the largest share of visitors came from the Czech Republic, followed by Germans, South Koreans and Taiwanese. Tourists from China and the USA were also well represented. Overall, however, foreign visitors dominate: around 62 per cent of guests come from abroad, 38 per cent from the Czech Republic. “This clearly shows the international appeal of Czech beer,” says Mášková.
In addition to the tours, the brewery offers further experiences, including events in the courtyard and visits to the Na Spilce restaurant. Due to construction work, the courtyard’s capacity was limited, resulting in fewer open-air events. The traditional Pilsner Fest also had to take place outside the brewery grounds in 2025, with the main programme held in Pilsen city centre. The visitor numbers for the classic tours remained stable last year, although the overall number of guests fell by around 14 per cent compared with the previous year due to the construction work.

A positive outcome was also reported for the Brewery Museum and the historic underground system of Pilsen, both operated by Plzeňský Prazdroj. More than 67,000 people visited these attractions – the second-best result since their opening in 1985. On the occasion of the 40th anniversary, a new underground tour called Secret of the Hidden Passages was launched, opening up previously inaccessible areas beneath the city. The visitor composition here is more balanced than in the brewery itself: 48 per cent come from the Czech Republic, 52 per cent from abroad.
