Since November 2025, buses operated by Prague Public Transport have been able to cross Vítězné náměstí via the tram tracks. This has noticeably reduced delays at the heavily used junction, particularly during peak hours from Podbaba and Prašný most.

Since November 2025, buses of the Prague Integrated Transport (PID) have been allowed to cross Vítězné náměstí using the tram tracks. This measure is primarily intended to reduce delays caused by congestion at this busy junction – with visible success. Vehicle location data shows that buses from both Podbaba and Prašný most pass through the roundabout at Kulaťák significantly faster. On average, buses save around one minute per journey during peak hours.

Time gains are particularly noticeable on sections that were previously heavily congested – for example, Jugoslávských partyzánů Street and Svatovítská Street, where traffic was slowed due to the tunnel access rules for the Blanka complex. On an average weekday, 1,059 bus services on 14 lines pass through Vítězné náměstí, resulting in a total daily time saving of 762 minutes.

Time savings during peak hours

The largest delays previously occurred during the afternoon peak from Podbaba, particularly on lines 107, 116, 147, 160, 340, 350, and 355. By using the tram tracks within the square, buses now save an average of 99 seconds per journey here. During the morning peak, the average time saved is around 60 seconds.

Bus lines 143, 149, and 180 also benefit significantly on the route towards Prašný most: in the morning they save an average of 55 seconds, in the afternoon 51 seconds. Buses coming from Prašný most also make efficient use of the tram tracks.

Considering only the ten per cent of services with the greatest delays, delays are halved: for lines from Podbaba, they drop from 8.7 to 3.5 minutes, and for lines to Prašný most from 4 to 2 minutes. Sections between Dejvická, Prašný most, and Nádraží Podbaba can now be covered approximately twice as fast as before.

New traffic management at Vítězné náměstí

The changes have been designed so as not to affect other traffic. The core of the measure is that buses can now pass through the centre of the roundabout using the tram track – both from Svatovítská and from Jugoslávských partyzánů. This improves the timetable reliability of bus lines across Prague 6.
